New calf buyers swoop at Skipton

The top three lots at the opening New Year rearing calf show at Skipton were all snapped up by new buyers, Nigel and Maria Mason, of Crowle, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

The Masons secured the champion and reserve winners – the first prize bull calf at £470 and the winning heifer calf for £400 – which were both British Blues from brothers Shaun and Peter Sowray, Bishop Thornton, Harrogate.

The Masons also paid £405 for a Limousin cross bull calf from Frank Spence, Sutten-in-Craven.

The opening rearing calf show attracted a bumper turnout of 121 youngsters, who sold their calves to average £160.26 per head.
