Scottish breeders made their presence felt at the first main Suffolk ram sale of the year at Shrewsbury, last weekend, producing several of the top priced lots including the sale leader at 26,000gns, while others bought stockrams to take back home across the Border.
Sale leader at 26,000gns was the best from Jimmy Douglas’ Cairness flock from Fraserburgh, purchased by Gary Beacom, who runs the Lakeview flock in Northern Ireland. His lamb, which was the pre-sale champion is by Cairness Achievement which also bred the second top priced lot at 13,500gns from Geoff Biddulph, who runs the Pexhill flock at Macclesfield. The buyer was the judge, Pat Greaney, who was buying on behalf of a client.
Next at 8200gns, Scottish breeder, Angus Wilson who runs the Glenhead flock at Melrose, bought a late February-born son of the 6000gns Cairness Carbon from Devon breeders, TA Irwin and Son, Lower Kingstree, Umberleigh.
Robbie Wilson’s Strathisla flock from North Dorlaithers, Turriff, was another in the money selling to a top of 8000gns was an ET lamb by the 12,000gns Glenhead Golden Phoenix, purchased by Aberdeenshire breeder, Graeme Christie, Newton of Balquhain, Inverurie.
The reserve champion from John Sinnett’s Stockton flock made 8000gns.
