Whitebred Shorthorns bulls ruled supreme at a joint sale of Shorthorn and Galloway cattle at Carlisle, securing three of the top four highest prices including the two best at 2600gns and 2500gns.
Dearest was Messrs Hewson’s Parton Vintage, a 26-month-old bull from Burgh Head, Burgh By Sands, Carlisle, purchased by Ardnaw farms, Ellary Estate, Achanoish, Lochgilphead. He is by Broadleyfold Craig which also produced a 2400gns bull from Messrs Hewson, purchased by Mid Glamorgan cattle producers, G and G Davies, Wernlas, Cwmcadlan, Penderyn.
The champion, Blackburn Ace, from Gordon Jackson, Blackburn, Roxburghshire, made 2500gns selling to John Higgs Farms, Arkleton, Ewes, Langholm. The breeding behind this rising two-year-old includes Milnholm Scott onto Blackburn Ivory.
The Galloway trade was topped at 2400gns for the male champion, Index of High Creoch, from Gordon Gilligan, High Creoch, Gatehouse of Fleet. He is by Septimus of Tweedshaw, and out of Martha 13 of High Creoch by Nathan of Cairnsmore. The buyer was AF Holes, Demesne, Bewcastle, Carlisle.
