Goldenjen proves a winner at 11,000gns

A 16-month-old maiden heifer led the trade at EH Pennie and Sons' Sarkley pedigree Limousin heifer sale staged at Welshpool, last week, securing the lead bid of 11,000gns.

The heifer, Sarkley Goldenjen, from the Pennie's herd based at Gwern-Yr-Ychain, Llandyssil, Montgomery, Powys, is by Wilodge Vantastic and out of the Haltcliffe Ullswater daughter, Sarkley Adajen. A full sister to the 13,000gns Sarkley Dafydd and a maternal half sister to the 30,000gns Sarkley Edajen, she was knocked down to GE Davies and Sons, who bought a further six animals at the sale.

The second top price of 8500gns was paid late in the day for the young heifer Sarkley Gabrianne. This September 2011-born heifer is by the Broadmeadows Cannon son, Ronick Hawk, and is out of the Heros-sired Sarkley Susanne. Purchaser was local breeder CV Lewis, Buttington New Hall, Buttington, Welshpool, for his Garyvaughan pedigree herd.
