A Limousin bull from Bruce Goldie’s Goldies herd from Townfoot, Mouswald, topped a society sale at Carlisle, last week, selling for 6000gns to Welsh breeders, AL Williams and Sons, Ty Mawr, Edren, Pwllheli, Gwynedd.

Selling at this mark was Goldies Draughtsman, an 18-month-old bull by Ampertaine Bravo – a Sympa son purchased jointly for 24,000gns – out of Goldies Vitality whose pedigree features both Sarkley Ragtime and Ideal 23. He changed hands with beef value of LM+41.

Mr Goldie also received 3500gns for Goldies Dollar, another similarly aged Bravo son out of the Domino daughter, Goldies Angela. Final bidders on this youngster which sold with a Beef Value of +29 were G Snaith and Son, Biddleston Home Farm, Rothbury, Northumberland.

At 4300gns was the Southern Irish-bred Galbally Dan offered from Norman Cruickshank, Cowford Farm, Cleghorn, Nr Lanark. This AI calf, bred by T Masterson, Enniscorsy, Co Wexford, is by the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic and out of Millknock Nimble. He was purchased by G Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside, Appleby, who also runs the Terrys pedigree herd.

Averages: 28 bulls, £2795.63; 10 cows and heifers served and or suckling, £1138.75; 11 bulling and maiden heifers, £1030.91
