Leading ladies from Stowbeck

A SMALLER but select entry forward for the first Border and Lakeland Holstein Club show and sale of the year, at Carlisle, last week, saw Skirwith Hall Farms' Stowbeck herd from Penrith, secure many of the lead prices.

Sale leader from Skirwith Hall at 2400gns was the 16-month-old bull, Stowbeck Energy, a Pine-Tree Sid son out of Denmire Buckeye Erma 12 VG87, which gave 13,260kg in her second. He was knocked down to W Wilsons and Sons, Mayfield, Kelton, Castle Douglas, for 2400gns.

Also from Skirwith Hall, at 2300gns, was the Jenny-Lou Mrshl Toystory-sired heifer in milk, Stowbeck Toystory Mabel. This August 2010-born heifer is out of Stowbeck Empire Mabel GP83, which gave 11,090kg in her first, and sold to JT and EM Marrs and Son, Broomhills, Orton Road, Carlisle.

A full report on the sale is in this week's issue of The Scottish Farmer, out January 26.
