Paulern British Blue dispersal reaches 4450gns

The Cotswold sun shone on a huge turnout of buyers at the on-farm dispersal of Ernie Hemmings' Paulern British Blue herd, after 20 years of breeding, at Hay Lane Farm, Horsley, Nailsworth, last Saturday.

Selling for the top bid of 4450gns was the 2007-born Paulern Carol, an embryo daughter of Tamhorn Sumo and out of the Belgian bred and Dafydd d'Ochain-sired Zwarte II ET VD Wildebee. She sold four months in-calf to the home-bred bull Paulern Declan, which later sold for 2900gns, to Paul Dawes of Dinmore Manor, Herefordshire.

Making the next top price of 4200gns was Paulern Gloucester, a January 2011-born black and white son of Paulern Aquita and out of the Cristal de Somme-sired Paulern Diamond. He sold to Freeland Farms, Cheltenham, who bought a number of young bulls at the dispersal.

In addition, nearly 500 straws of semen from a variety of outstanding British Blue bulls were on offer which topped at 160gns for Affute DU RY Ossogne.
