Welsh Black breeders enjoyed a bumper trade at their breed society sale at Dolgellau, last week, with no fewer than three bulls hitting the magical five-figure bracket to boost the overall bull average to just short of £5000.
Sale leader at 14,000gns was the champion bull, Ysguboriau Brenin 75, from William Jones, Tywyn. This 21-month-old home-bred bull which scaled in at 1000kg, sold to Emyr Jones, Graig Goch, Nebo, Llanrwst.
Mr Jones Ysguboriau herd was back in the money minutes later selling a similarly aged bull at 10,000gns. Ysguboriau Llywelyn 49 was knocked down to Messrs Williams, Tyddyn Bach, Llanfachreth Dolgellau.
On the debit side, Mr Jones then went to 11,000gns to acquire the services of the first prize winner, Caerynwch Major 4, a 19-month-old bull from TW Williams Caerynwch Farm, Dolgellau.
