BFL ewe hogg makes £6800

Despite bitterly cold conditions and a covering of snow, the show and sale of pedigree Bluefaced Leicester females at Hawes, last weekend, met a healthy demand with the 53 sheep forward cashing in at £1047 per head.

Scottish judge, Alan Wight, of the Midlock flock, from Crawford, found his choice of champion in the shape of a ewe hogg from the Lord family's Hewgill flock from Low Dowgill, North Stainmore, Kirkby Stephen, which went on to top the trade at £6800.

An embryo lamb by the B41 Hewgill and bred from a ewe by the Z14 Hewgill, with five full sisters and a tup lamb having been retained by the Lords, she sold to Shane McDonagh, Hill View Farm, from Ireland, who is establishing a new flock in the Rebublic.
