THE SOLID demand for Texel females continued at last weekend’s Select Seven sale at Lanark, where an almost total clearance saw trade peaking at 6000gns, for one from the Clark family’s Lesmahagow-based Garngour flock. Leading the way was the pen number one from the Clarks – Jim and Helen and sons, Alan, Andrew and David, who run 120 pedigree females in all.

Placed inter-breed sheep champion at Biggar, on her only show outing, this gimmer is by Wardhall Nemesis, a tup bought at Lanark two years ago. The dam, a daughter of Clynnog Joe Tex, is one of the best females in the flock, having previously bred sons up to 12,000gns and daughters up to 7500gns. In fact, it was the buyer of that 7500gns gimmer in 2006, Graham Morrison, of the Deveronvale flock at Inchbruich, Banff, that this time bought her maternal sister. He teamed up with Kenny Pratt, Oldtown, Peterculter, to secure the purchase, which is in lamb with twins to a tup bought this year for 8000gns, Procters Playboy. The same two buyers next went to 5000gns to purchase another from the same family, this time from the Clarks’ Teiglum flock. A maternal sister to the 6000gns gimmer and again due to Procters Playboy. This one is by Hexel Lexus, sire of the 40,000gns Garngour Nirvana. A show gimmer through the summer, she was placed eighth at the Highland and second at Stirling. Averages: Ettrick – 17 gimmers, £1041.97. Craighead – 17 gimmers, £484.24. Garngour and Teiglum – 18 gimmers and 2 embryos, £1810.20. Turin – seven gimmers, £300.00. Grougfoot – 20 gimmers, £933.38.
