A reduction sale from the Knox family’s Turriff-based Haddo Texel flock met a strong demand at Carlisle, with just two lots failing to find buyers.
Sale top, at 5500gns, was a five-year-old ewe by the 120,000gns Tophill Joe, out of a ewe by the 50,000gns Craighead Hercules. Dam of what the Knox boys think is the best gimmer in the flock, this ewe sold to David McKerrow, for his Nochnary flock at Freuchie, Cupar.
Next best, at 3000gns, was a three-year-old daughter of Glenside Mylord, which sold to Welsh buyers R and E Owen, Llwydfaen, Tal-Y-Cafn. This one’s grand-dam bred the 32,000gns Haddo Inquirer.
Graham Morrison, Inchbruich, Banff, took home the top priced gimmer, at 3000gns, for his Deveronvale flock. Shown this year, this Combs Valley Nistleroy daughter, is out of a ewe by Tophill Joe.
Averages: 41 ewes, £1020.04; 39 gimmers, £664.65.
