IN-LAMB TEXEL females sold to a new record female price of 20,000gns for the first lot in the ring at Carlisle, last week.
That was the pen number one from Jimmy Douglas’ Cairness consignment, from his 100-ewe flock at Woodhead of Cairness, Fraserburgh. She is the first female to be sold in lamb to the 220,000gns Deveronvale Perfection, which Mr Douglas bought at Lanark in August. Sired by Clola Marksman, she is out of the previous female record holder, the 19,000gns Glenside gimmer, which has bred sons up to 21,000gns.
Final bidder at 20,000gns was Malcolm Reid, Runningburn, Stichill, Kelso, who had bought gimmers at 13,000gns, 5000gns and 4500gns, the previous week at Carlisle.
Enjoying a flyer of a trade, with one hitting five-figures, were Albert and George Howie, West Knock, Stuartfield, Peterhead, with daughters of the 16,000gns Garngour Nobleman, bought at Lanark two years ago. Top for the pen, at 12,000gns was one out of their prolific ewe, HAK05034, an Anglezark Krug daughter that has produced sons at 20,000gns, £10,000, 8000gns and 7000gns. She sold carrying twins to Tophill Nockout – sire of tups up to 12,000gns – to Procters Farm, Woodhouse Lane, Slaidburn, Lancashire.
Averages: Cairness – 10 gimmers, £3522.75. Rascarrel – 12 gimmers, £656.25. Glenside – 22 gimmers, £968.86. Tophill – seven gimmers, £1132.50. Knock – 19 gimmers, £2724.47. Haddo – 16 gimmers, £833.44. Midlock – 10 gimmers, £819.00. Deveronvale – eight gimmers, £761.25.
