Scottish Bluefaced Leicester Robert Wallace, Macherquhat, Ballantrae, was back out in force at the in-lamb female sale at Hawes, last weekend, buying the lead priced lot at £4000.
Mr Wallace, who only the previous week purchased the top female at the Carlisle event at 5000gns, again bought another ewe hogg, this time from the Lancs-based Smearcett flock owned by WA and A Booth, Old Hall Cottage, Feizor. Placed champion at the pre-sale show, this youngster is an embryo daughter of the £11,500 Hundith tup out of a M1 Star Green ewe. In all seven embryos were produced from the flush, and the Booths offered two at the sale, retaining five gimmers for themselves from the same flush.
The Lord brothers – John, Andrew and David – from Low Dowgill, North Stainmore, Kirkby Stephen, also followed up a good day’s trading at Carlisle with a £2800 sale for a ewe hogg out of the full sister to the home-bred Z40 Hewgill tup. It sold to local breeder Gerry Shields from Tarn House, Ravenstonedale.
