NORTH Country Cheviot females met a good demand at Lockerbie last Saturday, selling to a top of 1200gns.

Sale leader was a gimmer from Willie and Laura Thomson, Hownam Grange, Kelso. By Hownam Grange Wee Tam and carrying a single to a Whiteknowe sire, she stood first in her class and heads south with James Burton of Ilamtops, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

Mr Burton bought a further three lots including the top priced ewe hogg at 1000gns from Keith Stones, Nun Cote Nook, Marrick. By Kinaldy Krugerrand she was born a triplet and stood second in the pre-sale show.

Travelling to the same home at 800gns was a Nun Cote Mutton Chops-sired gimmer from the Graham family at Carruthers, Waterbeck. She is carrying twins to a Gospel Hall sire.

At 700gns, Philiphaugh Estate, Selkirk, sold their second prize gimmer to Mr Burton. This gimmer is by Ericstane Newtonmoor and in lamb to Allanshaws Red Arrow.

The same price saw a gimmer from Hownam Grange sell to Ian Davidson, Balnacree, Avonbridge. By Hownam Grange The Duke, she is carrying twins to the Whiteknowe sire. Mr Davidson bought another from the same home at 650gns. By Allanshaws Majestic this two-shear is in lamb with a single to Smiddyquoy Pastor.

Philiphaugh, Selkirk, exhibited the show champion, a two-crop ewe by Broomhill Bank Johnnie Walker in lamb to Erictane Newtonmoor. The buyer was the judge, Rod McKenzie, Muirton, Munlochy, Ross-shire, at 600gns.
