Carlisle
AN entry of 301 store cattle sold very dear on the week at Harrison and Hetherington, last week, where a top of £1275 was paid for Limousin bullocks from Messrs Little, Maryland, Wigton.
Heifers sold to £1205 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Carlisle, and dairy-bred cattle hit £870 for a Friesian from JM and GJ Dockeray, Kelsick House, Wigton. 
A small show of breeding sheep on Monday saw most sheep sell dearer on the week and to a top of £86 for a Texel cross hogg with Texel-sired lambs from CE Routledge, Lynecrook, Roweltown.

Stirling (UA)
LIMOUSIN crosses from Cleeves and Simmental crosses from Lettar of Ballied led United Auctions’ sale of 623 store cattle last week.
Per head, Lettar of Ballied sold a 658kg bullock for £1310 and a 626kg heifer for £1300, while Cleeves sold a 242kg bullock for 289.3p and a 229kg heifer for 273.3p. 
In all, the 342 bullocks levelled at 227.38p with the 258 heifers at 217.98p.
Dairy bullocks (21) averaged 147.15p and peaked at 160p and £725 for a 453kg Friesian from Gateside while the 44 young bulls levelled at 183.89p and sold to 213.1p and £1040 for a Limousin cross from Ardochearanbeg.
Averaging 124.63p, the 149 cast cows reached 170.2p for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from West Lethans and £1330 for a Limousin cross from Monzie Farms. 
Also forward were 164 breeding cattle which saw females peak at £2500 for a Limousin cross heifer with bull calf at foot from Derrie, while cows and calves hit £2100 for an Angus and bull calf from Millhouse. A five-year-old Charolais bull from Dreva also realised £2500.

Dingwall
DINGWALL and Highland Marts recently sold 520 sheep of all classes where prime and feeding sheep meet a highly satisfactory demand. 
The 148-strong entry of lambs reached £65 for Suffolks from 3 Kirktonmuir, Bunchrew, while the 255 ewes hit a top of £90 twice – firstly for Texels from Kilcoy, Kilearnan, and again for Texel crosses from Daviot Farms, Lairgandour. 
Mule ewes with Beltex cross lambs at foot from Dulsie Farm, Glenferness, topped the 79 ewes with lambs at £135 while a cross ram from Bogburn, Duncanston, realised £82 to top the 38 rams and feeding sheep.

St Boswells
SELLING through Harrison and Hetherington, last week, was a selection of store and breeding cattle, which included two dispersals in the breeding cattle section.
They peaked at £2400 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross cow with her Angus-sired bullock calf at foot from Messrs Walker’s Cammerlaws dispersal, while the dispersal from Pogbie hit a top of £2250 for a British Blue heifer with calf. 
Store cattle met exceptional rates to peak at 249p per kg twice for two pens of four Limousin cross bullocks from Messrs Douglas, Saughtree, with heifers to 234.3p for Limousins from the same home. 
The sale saw bullocks average 222.96p with heifers at 210.2p. 
A nice show of ewes with lambs reached £158 for Mule ewe hoggs with Texel-sired lambs from St John’s Kirk.

Thainstone
STORE cattle met the dearest trade of the season at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, last week, where averages rose on the week and numbers were short of requirements. 
Trade reached 293.8p per kg for a 274kg Limousin cross bullock from Firva, Scousburgh, with the 101 bullocks also selling to £1365 for a 674kg Charolais cross from Ardivot, Lossiemouth. They averaged 228.1p (+11.4p on the week).
Heifers (136) levelled at 221.6p (+5.9p) and sold to 293.8p for a pen of 274kg Charolais crosses from Keiss Mains, Keiss, and £1210 for a 550kg British Blonde from Fieldhead, Newmill. 
Breeding cattle (178 head, including nine bulls) met an excellent demand, reaching £2800 for a British Blue cross heifer with heifer calf at foot from Weser Bleaton/Solizarie, with cows and calves to £2450 for a Simmental and bull calffrom Mains of Edzell, Edzell. 
The entry of 601 ewes with lambs met a sound demand to top at £82 per life for Mule hoggs with singles from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie, while the 58 store lambs hit £60.50 for continentals from Pitgaveny, Elgin. 
Feeding ewes and rams (705) sold to £103.50 for Texel rams from Bush, Crathie.

Islay
ARDNAVE led the majority of sections at United Auctions’ June sale on Islay, where a strong force of mainland buyers ensured all stock was cleared at satisfactory rates. 
Ardnave sold Limousin cross bullocks for £1040 and 300p per kg, as well as Blonde, Charolais and Limousin cross heifers at £980 four times. 
Another two pens of bullocks – Limousin crosses from Balaclava and Charolais crosses from Tallant – realised £1040 while Carrabus sold a pen of five Limmy cross heifers for 271p.
Bullocks levelled at £836.90 per head or 230.9p per kg (against £790.81 or 231.5p the previous year) with heifers at £761.25 or 222.9p (against £779.37 or 222.2p in 2015).

ALL classes of breeding sheep on offer through C and D Auction Marts, on Tuesday, met a great trade, although quality was not as good on the week.
Leading the entry at £81 was a pen of Texel hoggs with singles from Stonepotts while other sections reached £58 for Greyface ewes with singles from Smiddyhill.

TRADE was pleasing for all sections at Lawrie and Symington’s fortnightly sale of store cattle on Tuesday, where 54 bullocks levelled at 227.2p per kg or £889.89 with 33 heifers at 217.2p or £881.52.
Limousin cross bullocks from R Harvie, Mayfield, Coalburn, led the sale at 255.1p with bullocks also selling to £1140 for British Blue crosses from RM McCaskie, Cornhill, Biggar. 
Heifers also reached £1140, this time for a Charolais cross from R Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill, with Limousins from AF and R Cruickshank, Little Kype, Strathaven, making 250p.
