HEADING up the Scottish Zwartbles Sheep Association’s show and sale at Stirling, was the supreme champion from the pre-sale show, a ewe lamb from Moira McLaren and Ally Baird’s Greystone flock from near Dunblane.
Their leader at 1700gns was the first ewe lamb through the ring in the shape of Greystone Dapper, a January-born twin by Tardoes Sanny and out of a Brotherton ewe by Wolfclyde Nimbus. Selling to Hoscote Estate, Hawick, she was third in her class at the Scottish National at Doune and Dunblane.
Following at 750gns was an unplaced ram lamb in the shape of Corrybrae Discovery from David Miskelly, Kildrummy, Alford. Sired by Liverton Cavalier and out of Corrybrae Acacia, a Norton Trojan daughter, he stood third in his class at the Highland and first at Fettercairn.
Another born in January, he sold in a two-way split to Gillian McIntosh, Bent Farm, Galston, and Lorraine Crum, Dunninghamhead, Kilmarnock.
The male champion and reserve male both made 700gns with the former, Bessiebell Casino from I and A Donald, Newtown Stewart, Co Tyrone, selling to Welsh breeder, Olwen Hughes-Owen. This shearling was bred by Mrs S Smyth and is by Donbraid Big D and out of Bessiebell Ava.
Also heading to Wales with Mr Hughes-Owen was the reserve male champion from Jim Mair’s Hedgefield flock from Dunmore, Beauly. His two-shear ram, Hedgefield Brick Top is by Killymallaght Aviator and out of a Brotherton ewe.
Mr Mair also achieved the best of the gimmer trade when two sold to Mike Anderson, Ballindalloch, for 600gns apiece. First up and placed second in her class was the Broomfield Trickster-sired Hedgefield Cherise, which was immediately followed through the ring by the Culriach Sebastian daughter, Hedgefield Clarise.
Two rams lambs sold for 650gns with the first being the Eildon Hill Am Yer Man-sired Craigies Dictator from Stuart Craig, Eildon Mains, Melrose, purchased by K and S Cowin, Craigie Hall, Bungalow, Carnwath.
The second lamb at 650gns which sold to DL and C Jones, Danygraid, Wales, was P and S Addison’s Hayberries Dundrum, a Hellstanes Controversy son from the Barnard Castle-based flock that stood first in his class.
On the other side of the balance sheet, the Addisons paid 620gns for Mrs S Smyth’s Bessiebell Dainty, a ewe lamb by Gillhall Amarok that was second at the pre-sale show for the Northern Irish flock in Co Tyrone.
