BREEDING sheep sold away well at Caledonian Marts' recent show and sale of Scotch Mule ewe lambs alongside Texel and continental ewe lambs and Mule and Texel gimmers through its Stirling centre.
A total of 13 pens of Mule ewe lambs were forward for judging, and John McCord, of Craigend, Methven, selected a pen of 26 from Doug and Lynda Graham, Mains of Burnbank, Blairdrummond, as his champion. They later went on to make £128 per head when snapped up by John Gordon, Wellheads, Huntly.
Taking the reserve title was a pen from Craig Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden, which went on to sell to G Simpson, Kirkland, Huntly, for £118.
But leading the Mule ewe lamb trade at £132 was the third prize pen from David Gray, Drumnessie, Banton, that also heads to Wellheads with Mr Gordon.
Overall, the 3058 Mule ewe lambs levelled at £90.96 (+£9.89 on the year) and saw the fourth prize pen from Tomfyne make £120, the fifth prize pen from J MacGregor, Dyke, sell for £98, and the sixth prize pen from D MacGregor, Burnhead, realise £105.
Texel ewe lambs levelled at £84.55 (+£6.51) and reached £100 from Allanfauld while 788 Scotch Mule gimmers cashed in to average £125.23 (+£8.58) having peaked at £154 from Drumnessie.
