DESPITE an early calling, local breeder, George Wilkinson topped the Twilight Texel sale at Carlisle, selling his lead entry for 5000gns.

Mr Wilkinson who runs the Arkle and Ellenvalley flocks from Arkleby House, Aspatria, led the trade with a gimmer by the Strathboige Untouchable son, Milnbank Van Wilder, which was used on loan, out of a ewe by Curley Orlando. First prize gimmer at Cockermouth Show, this entry, whose maternal sister bred the 20,000gns Arkle Ubet, sold carrying a pair to the 24,000gns Midlock Yorkie, to Welsh breeder, AE Jones, Ynys Toddeb, Llangadog, Dyfed.

Another from the same home and by the same sire made 3200gns to C Bellis, Llwyn Y Cosyn, Brynford, Holywell. Reserve champion at Cockermouth as a ewe lamb, she also sold due to Yorkie, but carrying a single lamb.

A joint purchase between Thomas Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie and C Cornthwaite, Closes Hall, Bolton on Bowland, Clitheroe, then saw the lead entry from the Quick brothers' Loosebeare flock from Devon make 4500gns. This was a gimmer by the 3000gns Whitehart Spot On, which has bred sons to 4400gns, out of a ewe by Loosebeare Oh Yes. The service sire was the Strathbogie Terminator son, Loosebeare Voomer.

Robert Bennett only sold one entry from his Plasucha flock from Upper Hall, Meifod, Powys, with this gimmer, by Crailloch Va Va Voom, making 4000gns to John Morton, Bank Hall, Kirkland, Penrith. She is bred from a Connachan Sharky daughter whose ET sisters sold for 3500gns, 2600gns and 2500gns and sold due to Eden Valley Wiz Kid, which has bred sons to 6500gns twice.

A good level pen of gimmers from Robin Orr's Halbeath flock from Dunfermline, peaked at 2800gns for the first lot in the ring, purchased by Nick Woodmass, Foxglove, Brunstock, Carlisle. The first prize gimmer at Perth show and a member of the reserve inter-breed pair at the same event, she is by the Mossknowe United son, Halbeath VIP, and sold AI'd to the 24,000gns Midlock Yorkie.
