TEXEL gimmers from Charlie Boden's Sportsman's flock by the 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid, proved the star attraction at a joint sale of Texel and Beltex females at Chelford, producing the top two prices at 5000gns and 3700gns.

Dearest from the Stockport-based unit, was the champion, purchased by David Morrison, Dalwyne, Barr, Ayrshire. Bred from a ewe by Milnbank Special One, she sold carrying twins to Strathbogie Whiplash.

Her ET sister, also carrying twins to Whiplash and brought out by shepherd Mark Priestley, then made 3700gns selling to Kay Castle, Washingley, Peterborough, with another ET sister realising 2000gns to Chris Asher, Railford, Derby. The service sire this time was Knock Will.I.Am.

Lancashire breeders, Robert and Ryan Bradley, Far Hey, Barnoldswick, also came up with the goods, taking 2600gns for a gimmer by Tophill Union Jack, out of a ewe by Anglezarke Uno. Anglesey breeder, Richard Hughes, forked out the cash for this entry in lamb to Bryn-y-Coed Yogi Bear.

Top price for Gordon and David Gray’s Ettrick flock from Selkirk, was 2400gns paid for an Ettrick Sir Allan-sired gimmer out of a ewe by Glenside Razzle Fazzle, and in lamb to Hallrig Y Not. The buyer was David Morrison, Ayrshire.

Banffshire breeder, Graham Morrison who owns the Deveronvale flock at Inchbruich, bought two of the top priced lots, both of which were consigned by Peter and Rose Wood of the Stainton flock from Kendal. This included the pre-sale reserve champion, an Anglezarke Uno daughter out of a ewe by Sportsmans Tremendous and served to Hexel Wildcard. She made 1800gns while her pen mate, by Sportsmans Tremendous, out of a ewe by Stainton Ricochet and again due to Wildcard, realised 1900gns.

Ewes peaked at 1500gns for a Sportsmans Tremendous daughter from Richard Wilson’s Eden Valley flock from Appleby. She sold in lamb to Anglezarke Uno, to J Howard, Great Ayton, Yorkshire.

Best of the ewe lambs was an 1000gns sale for the first prize winner from Ben Vernon’s Charben flock, Rochester, Staffs, purchased by S Delaney, Co Roscommon, Ireland. She is by Stainton Vigilante.

Mr Boden was back in action on the other side of the ring at the Beltex sale, buying the two top priced lots at 2300gns and 1900gns – both of which were from Stuart Wood's Woodies flock from Skene, Aberdeen.

Dearest was a recipient ewe carrying a single embryo by Glenkeen Sanders and bred from one of Mr Wood’s best ewes. The 1900gns bid came for another recipient ewe carrying twins. The resultant lambs will be bred from the dam of the 11,000gns Woodies Audi, and sired by Todhall Sumo.

Mr Wood, who enjoyed a flying trade selling 28 Beltex to average £1127, also sold the two top priced gimmers at 1700gns and 1600gns and the best of the ewe lambs. The former, an imported gimmer that was reserve champion at the pre-sale show, changed hands in lamb to The Lad, to Anglesey breeder, Richard Hughes.

The latter, a home-bred entry by Todhall Sumo, out of an imported ewe and due to Double O Seven, was purchased by Andrew Wood, Preston.

Leading the ewe lamb trade at 1250gns was a daughter of Ardstewart Lord Almighty, purchased by Lorna Gregory, Launceston, Cornwall. Other Woodies ewe lambs made 1100gns and 1000gns to J Jones, Llanfechell, Anglesey and G Carroll, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

Mr Carroll, also bought the pre-sale champion from Andrew Morton, Denny, Stirling, at 1500gns. This was a gimmer by Mortons Wi-Fi, out of a ewe by Thingymajig and in lamb to the show-winning Beachy Norman.

Ewes peaked at 1050gns for the best of a pen of imported ewes from the Wilodge flock of Paul Tippets and Christine Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire. Their pen leader, a 2014-born by Pacman and due to Kingledores Braveheart, went home to Lampeter with Geraint Williams and family.
