Carlisle
SOME new purchasers ensured an excellent trade through Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, which saw 792 store and weaned cattle go under the hammer.
The 456 stores hit a top of £1400 for a Limousin bullock from Gelt Hall, Castle Carrock, with heifers to £1235 for a Charolais cross from Brocklerigg.
A plainer show of weanlings was topped by Limousins – with bulls to £1175 from Northfield Park, heifers to £1080 from Hargill House and bullocks to £1040 from Upper Burnmouth.
The firm’s monthly sale of beef breeding cattle peaked at £3000 for a Limousin cross heifer with Limousin-sired heifer calf at foot from Bank House.

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington, sold a selection of store and breeding sheep, where store hoggs reached £71 twice for Suffolk crosses from Mead Cottage, Cockermouth, and Priory Nook, Carlisle.
Breeders peaked at £155 for a pen of seven Texel cross gimmers from Mealrigg House, Aspatria, with ewes to £50 for a pen of Texels sold on behalf of the late H Fisher, The Beeches.

Lanark
A MIXED offering of store cattle sold through Lawrie and Symington’s event saw all classes improve on the week.
The 591 head peaked at 271.6p per kg for  Limousin bullocks from High Bellochantuy, with the same home leading the heifers with Limousins at 244.1p.
Top price per head was £1270 paid for Charolais bullocks from Netherurd Mains with heifers to £1175 for Limousins from Underlaw.
Montbeliardes from Gowmacmorran and Lephenstrath led the dairy-cattle at 194.6p and £890, respectively.
The 341 bullocks level at 216.1p or £968.51, 195 heifers at 204.8p or £904.49 and 55 dairy types at 143.4p or £715.64.

CHAROLAIS crosses from Auchentiber led the trade at United Auctions’ recent sale, when a 226kg bullock sold for 269p and a 260kg heifer made 257p.
Per head, cattle reached £1330 for a 646kg Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from Croftjane with heifers to £1250 for a 634kg Charolais cross from Shortrigg.
Overall, 473 bullocks averaged 219p with the 306 heifers at 207p.
Included in the sale were 32 dairy bullocks which averaged 154.81p and sold to 214p and £1120 for a 523kg Holstein cross from Inchgall.
Among the cast cows, 123 beef types averaged 116p and sold to 168p for a British Blue cross from Cuttlehill, and £1350 for an Angus cross from Northfield. Levelling at 107p, the 32 dairy-bred cows reached 141p and £1290 for a Montbeliarde cross from Woodend.
The 2374 store and breeding sheep, was led by store hoggs at £64.50 for Texels from Wester Bowhouse, and breeders at £103 for Cheviot Mules from Royal Dick, Scottish Vet School.

Dingwall
WITH reduced numbers on the year, trade was in keeping with sellers’ expectations at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 1095 sheep.
The 472 store hoggs reached £72 for Cheviots from Old Croft House, Dingwall, and cashed in to average £45.36.
Averaging £49.77, the 280 ewes sold to £91 for Suffolks from Ankerville, Nigg, while the 233 rams levelled at £42.62 having sold to £90 for a Suffolk from Runachloie, Lairg.
Cheviots from Ose Farm, Struan, led the 110 feeding sheep at £65.

Thainstone
A USEFUL selection of store cattle sold at recent rates but strong cattle numbers were short of requirements at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale last week.
Charolais crosses dominated the trade with a pair of 292kg bullocks from Mains of Auchmedden, Pennan, selling for 263.7p per kg; a pair of 614kg bullocks from Bankhead, Clatt, at £1380; and a 624kg heifer from Rivefold, Ythanwells, made £1370.
Otherwise, a 612kg Limousin cross bullock from Backhills, Corse, realised £1380 with a 400kg Simmental cross heifer from Fichlie, Glenkindie, at 257.5p.
In all, the 576 bullocks levelled at 225.9p (+0.5p on the week) with the 386 heifers at 216.6p (+1.5p) and 14 young bulls at 209.1p.
Also forward were 2194 sheep of all classes where store hoggs sold at recent rates. The 1086 hoggs reached £68.50 for Texel crosses from Blackcastle, Gollanfield, with 28 ewe hoggs to £64.50 for Texel crosses from North Skelmanae, Strichen, and 439 island hoggs to £63.50 for Texels from Salties, Sanday.
Feeding sheep (641) peaked at £119 for a Charollais ram from Croftbain, Tomnavoulin, with ewes to £105 for Texels from Mill of Towie, Keith.

DESPITE numbers being well up on the year, buyer demand outstripped supply at Wallets Marts’ sale of 279 store and OTM cattle on Monday.
Charolais crosses from McNeill Estates, Shennanton, topped the store trade at 263.9p per kg for bullocks and 253.6p for heifers. Per head a pen of Limousin bullocks from A and M Fitzsimon, Tregallon, topped at £1210 with heifers to £1105 for a pen of Limousin crosses from A Kerr and Co, Fagra.
Overall, bullocks averaged 226p or £970.26 with heifers at 206.2p or £850.20.
OTM cattle averaged 125.7p or £715.47, with a Simmental cos from Graplin Farms selling for 138p.

Longtown
TRADE upheld recent high prices at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 123 store cattle and suckler calves on Tuesday, where a top of £1100 was paid for a pair of Shorthorn bullocks form TS Brass, Espland.
Heifers reached £1075 for Limousins from J Common and Son, Crossdykes, and breeding cattle hit £1060 for a Shorthorn cow with British Blue-sired bull calf at foot from Midtodhills.
Also on offer were 3647 store hoggs, cast sheep and in-lamb females, where a quality entry of hoggs maintained previous high prices to top at £74.50 for Texels from Nether Lochardwoods (Crichton).
A small show of in-lambs hit £90 for Suffolks from Whitegates.
