A NEW world record for a pedigree beef animal was achieved at the Schaff Aberdeen Angus sale in North Dakota, last weekend, when the first bull in the ring sold for a colossal $750,000 (approximately £602,000).

Furthermore, this on-farm sale of 496 2016-born bulls averaged a whopping $17,485 with the 223 females cashing in at $12,611. Overall, the event – the 114th production sale from Kelly and Martie Jo Schaff – brought in an amazing $11,485,750 or £9.2m.

Setting the trade a light, the No 1 bull, SAV 654X Rainmaker 6847, an October 2016-born bull sold for $750,000 to Herbster Angus Farms, Nebraska, who purchased the highest-selling bull at the last Schaff sale

Sired by Coleman Charlo 0256 and out of the famous Blackcap May 4136, which before the sale had left more than 5.6m dollars in direct progeny sales and has produced many herd sires and top AI bills including SAV pedigree $725,000, SAV Sensation $650,000, SAV Seedstock $235,000.

Notably, Rainmaker's flush brothers sold later in the sale realised $460,000, $450,000 and $435,000.
