CHAROLAIS BULLS again secured the supreme championship and the majority of lead prices at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ pedigree sale staged alongside the Royal Northern Spring Show.
With averages well up for almost all breeds, including a bumper trade for Salers, 55 of the 68 forward sold to new homes to give an 80% clearance rate.
Selling for the top price of 8000gns was Jock Wilson’s reserve champion, Kinclune Lenny, from Glenkindie, Alford. This two-year-old son of Beechtree George – which was purchased at Carlisle for 20,000gns after standing junior and supreme champion there in May, 2012 – has bred many sons over the 5000gns bracket for Mr Wilson, at Thainstone. Out of Kinclune Honey, Lenny sold to David Blair and Son, Littleinch, Balmerino, Newport-on-Tay.
Two bulls sold for 6000gns apiece, including the best from father and son team, Neil and Stuart Barclay, Harestone, Insch. Doon Lancelot, bred by R and E O’Beirne, is by Inverlochy Ferdie and out of Doon Clodagh, and heads to work for Jim Innes at Deskie, Glenlivet.
Matching that price was Colin and Kelly Stuart’s Charolais, Lettoch Logan, from Lettoch Farms, Braes of Glenlivet, Ballindalloch. A son of their stock bull, Killadeas Dwane – which bred many prize winning commercial calves – he is out of Ugie Giselda. Buying this 18-month-old was Black Isle commercial producer, Duncan McCallum, Shoreton, Culbokie.
The overall champion from Kevin Mallarkey, Airdlin Mains, Ythanbank, Ellon, sold next at 5500gns. This was Strathys Lionheart, an April, 2015-born and one of the first sons off Maerdy Harrypotter to be sold. Standing second in his class at New Deer Show last summer, he is out of Airdlin Fuzz and was knocked down to George Mackie, Darnabo, Fyvie, Turriff.
Andrew and Jim Gammie’s Limousin, Westpit Lampard, from Dumforber, Laurencekirk, secured the second top price of 7000gns. Lampard, the second son sold by Jalex Itsallgood – the first made 17,000gns at Carlisle, last October – is out of Greenwell Dior. Purchaser was Neil Meldrum, Shenval, Ballindalloch.

Selling at 6500gns was the Irvine family’s Anside Lascard, from Braehead, Drummuir. By their stock bull, Powerful Irish and out of Anside Gale, this 20-month-old sold to Caithness, with RS Mackenzie, Dunveaden House, Bettyhill, Thurso.
John and Margaret Penny’s Shannas herd from Mintlaw, Peterhead, saw its July, 2015-born, Shannas Leman reach 6000gns. Selling to Monymusk Estate, Inverurie, he is by Goldies Emperor and out of Shannas Dinah.
Sandy Irvine, Newton Farm, Cairnie, at Huntly, went to 5500gns for Albert and George Howie’s Limousin, Knock Legend, from West Knock, Peterhead. This June, 2015-born son of Goldies Goldfinger is an embryo son out of the herd’s best cow.
Hitting 5500gns for the Simmental breed was the Green family’s Corskie Glow, by the 45,000gns Bel Dhu Capercaillie which has bred Corskie bulls to 25,000gns. Born in April, 2015, he is out of Corskie Chloe, and was snapped up by Rob Blackhall, Millhead, Tarland, Aboyne.

Two bulls came under the hammer at 4000gns, with the first being Neil Shand’s Cairnorrie Godfather from Methlick, Ellon. Born in June 2015 and out of Cairnorrie Nancy, he goes to work on David and Patricia Petries’ herd at West Maldron, Torphins, Banchory.
One of the youngest, Islavale Gurkha, from the Stronach family at Berryleys, Keith, sold to the Thomsons, at Burnside of Tynet, Buckie. By the Irish sire, Curaheen Bandit which has produced impressive sales for the family, he is out of Islavale Doris.
Aberdeen-Angus bulls reached 6000gns for Blelack Eddie R525, the champion from Neil and Graeme Massie, Firmaron, Aboyne. Selling across the water to Orkney, with Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness, this rising April, 2015-born bull is by Blelack Evergreat and out of Bleclack Ebo Lass. His brothers have sold to 25,000gns and 19,000gns.
Salers met a good trade, selling to 5500gns and 5000gns, with the best being Rigel Malik, from the Rigel herd, at Leven Fields, Yarm. By Rigel Byron Poll and out of Rigel Mia, he was purchased by A Smith and Son, Haughton, Glenkindie, Alford.
Just behind on 5000gns was Tolquhon Marvel from J Sleigh and Sons, Newseat, Tolquhon, Tarves. He’s a February, 2015-born son of Toloquhon Marvel and went home with J Baxter, Troup Home Farm, Gamrie.
