CALVES met a flying trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s show and sale at Kirkby Stephen on Monday, where a catalogued entry of 667 saw bullocks average £1001.70 and heifers level at £921.03, with a top price of £2100 paid for the reserve champion.
Sale topper was an 11-month-old pure-bred Limousin heifer from local breeders, David and Vicky Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby. Sired by Ampertaine Ivanhoe, she sold to the judge, James Nisbet of Sorn Mains, Mauchline, Ayrshire.
Next best at £2000, was the overall champion, a seven-month-old Limousin cross heifer from John, Hazel and Bradley Thompson, Poppy Farm, Selside. She also sold to Scotland but this time with Messrs Kennedy, Coalhall, Ayrshire.
