MORE than 2200 store cattle were forward for United Auctions’ show and sale at Stirling which also featured 130 cast cows and forward cattle and 955 store and breeding sheep.
Bullocks (1382) averaged 235.32p per kg and sold to a top of 294p for a 432kg Limousin cross from Auchenrivoch, and £1280 for a 602kg Limousin cross from Ballinloan.
Black and white bullocks (20) sold to 173.8p for a 400kg Holstein Friesian cross from South Brackenridge and £695 for a 432kg entry from the same home. They averaged 155.48p. 
The entry of 601 heifers, which levelled at 228.85p, saw a lead price of 271.3p for a 328kg Limousin cross from Glenhead and £1225 for a 608kg Charolais cross from Cretlevane. 
Ballinloan led the entry of 111 cast cows with a Limousin cross selling at 181.70p, with a Limousin cross from Greenshields  at £1550. They averaged 129.35p. 
Dairy types sold to 116.9p and £1070 for Holsteins from Corsewall Castle and Parkend, respectively, to cash in at 103.96p.

Dingwall
A GOOD quality show saw similar prices, and in some cases slightly dearer, than the last sale when Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 333 store cattle.
Top price per kg at 290.6p was paid for 265kg Limousin crosses from Kirkton Farms, Bunchrew, while heifers peaked at 276p for 250kg Limousin crosses from Easter Aberchalder, Gorthleck.
Leading the gross trade at £1285 was a 585kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Penick, Auldearn, with heifers to £1155 for 565kg Blondes from the same home.
The 172 bullocks averaged 234.5p with 159 heifers at 229.8p.
The sale of 23 OTM cattle saw 21 prime and feeding cows average 108.3p having sold to 134.7p for a 735kg Simmental cross from Auchmore Farm, Muir of Ord, and £990 three times – for an 805kg British Blue cross and a 795kg Limousin cross from Kindeace, Alness, and again for a 735kg Simmental cross from Auchmore.

Carlisle
TRADE remained buoyant for a good entry of cattle at Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale of store and weaned cattle which comprised 536 head. 
Leading the stores at £1280 was a Limousin cross heifer from Tercrosset, Brampton, while bullocks peaked at £1275 for a British Blue from WT McMiken, Nether Ernambrie, Castle Douglas.  
Weaned cattle peaked at £1125 for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock from Long Park.
On Monday the firm sold a selection of store and breeding sheep, where there was a large demand for store hoggs. They sold to £76 for a Suffolk cross from P Burgess, High Keenley Fell. 
Breeding sheep hit £106 for a pen of in-lamb Mule hoggs from Messrs Robson, Taylor Burn. Ewes with lambs reached £81 per life and £225 total for two lots from Messrs Graham, Kirkhouse Dairy, Dumfries.

Upper Samieston heifers sold to 272p per kg, with bullocks peaking at £1380 from Outerston.
Bullocks averaged £1004.17 per head or 222.12p per kg with heifers at £859.42 or 221.51p.

Ayr
ALL classes of cattle were dearer on the last sale at Craig Wilson’s sale of 643 store cattle, where 387 beef bullocks averaged 228.16p per kg or £939.64; 46 dairy bullocks levelled at 146.92p or £687.28; and 210 heifers balanced out at 215.81p or £866.74.
Top price was £1240 for Shorthorn bullocks from Ingleston or 264.5p for Simmental bullocks from Springfield, Arran. 
Heifers peaked at £1190 for a Limousin from Gass, Straiton, and a Charolais from Dunrod, and 250.7p for Limousins off Barmoorhill. 
Dairy-bred bullocks sold to £980 from Muirston or 200p from Kildrochat Mains, Stranraer.
Some 473 breeding and store sheep were also sold where one-crop Mule ewes from Middleton, Newton Mearns, led the trade at £143 per head. 
Store hoggs peaked at £69 for Texel crosses from Balluskie, Barrhill, and again for Mules from  J Errington, Overton.

BULLOCKS averaged 232.5p per kg with heifers at 226.6p at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1569 store cattle and BVD virus free heifers at Thainstone.
Charolais led the entry of 847 bullocks with a 322kg cross from Wellheads, Huntly, selling for 310.6p per kg, while a 696kg entry from Brims Mains, Forss, topped the gross trade at £1530.
Simmentals topped the entry of 615 heifers which peaked at 278.8p for 520kg crosses from Finzean Estate, Banchory, and £1600 for 612kg crosses from Drumneachie, Birse.
BVD virus free heifers (87) averaged 229.8p, (+10.7p on the year) having sold to 293p for 546kg Simmental crosses from Greycairn, Newmill, and £1650 for a 568kg Limousin cross from Gowanwell, Crudie.  
Orkney and Shetland consignments peaked at 279p per kg for 362kg Salers bullocks from Scatsta Brae, Shetland, and £1230 for a 590kg Aberdeen -Angus from Howe, Stromness.
Heifers sold to 276.3p for a 514kg Blonde and £1420 from Grutha, South Ronaldsay.
Also sold were 2451 grit ewes and store hoggs, including Orkney and Shetland consignments, and feeding ewes and rams, which saw store hoggs sell dearer on the week. 
Hoggs (677) reached £76 for continentals from North Ardoyne, Oyne, with the 200 island hoggs to £67.50 for Texels from Annster, South Ronaldsay. 
Texel cross hoggs from Auchtygall, Peterhead, topped the 550 grit females at £140. 
Feeding ewes and rams (1024) sold to £99.50 twice – for Texel ewes from Clinterty, New Aberdour, Inchbruich, Cornhill, and Texel rams from Greenfield Cuminestown.

AN increased entry for United Auctions’ early spring sale at Dalmally, saw 226 head of cattle and 318 sheep sell to a good ringside of buyers with cattle averages mostly up on the year. 
Bullocks averaged £759 per head or 245p per kg, against £746 or 239p last year. Heifers levelled at £655 or 229p, against £676 or 215p per kg.  
Bullocks and heifers from Barnakill led the gross trade at £1050 and £900 respectively, while Tullochcan topped the prices per kg among the bullocks at 311p with Achnacone leading the heifers at 280p

MORE forward cattle were present at C and D Auction Marts’ fortnightly sale at Dumfries, where 105 bullocks averaged 217.2p per kg and 68 heifers levelled at 208.5p.
Bullocks sold to £1140 from Highlaw and 263.9p from Low Glasnick, with heifers peaking at £1035 from Hillhead and 242.5p from Cormaddie.
Leading the bull trade at £1020 and 260p were entries from Abune the Brae and Leathorn, respectively, with the 19 head levelling at 221.3p. 
Black and whites (20) averaged 144.3p, selling to £815 and 163p from Boreland.

QUALITY store cattle were on offer at Harrison and Hetherington, on Tuesday, which met a terrific demand from a full ringside of buyers. 
A pair of 11-month-old Charolais bullocks from IT Goldie, Greenfield, topped at £1120 with a nine-month-old Charolais weighing 366kg from the same home making 265p per kg. 
Heifers reached £1010 for a 420kg Blonde from BW McArthur, 4 Todholes, Annan, and 241p for a Charolais from J Laurie and Co, Carterton. 
Young bulls sold to 223.9p from AJ McGregor, Relief Farm.
