A REDUCED entry of calves due to the weather conditions sold through Lawrie and Symington's Lanark centre, on Tuesday, at a sale which included a show and sale of overwintered calves on behalf of the Lanarkshire District of Young Farmers' Clubs.
Judge William Purdon, of Straven House, found his champion in the shape of a Limousin bullock from Carluke YFC's Scott Bourman. Named Stan, he later sold to Mr Purdon for £1230. In reserve was a Limousin cross heifer named Black Beauty from Tom Linton, Biggar YFC, went unsold.
Outwith the YF section, trade peaked at £1290 for Limousin cross bullocks from Muldron, with the 400 bullocks (which averaged 224.4p per kg) also selling to 257.6p for a Charolais cross from Glenrath. Averaging 144.1p, the 35 dairy bullocks hit 183.3p from West Drumlemble.
Heifers (347) levelled at 216.2p having sold to £1200 for Simmental crosses from Tinto View and 261.1p for a Limousin cross from Mayfield.
