ALI Jackson's champion went on to top the sale of store cattle at C and D Auction Marts, Dumfries, when members of the Dumfries and Galloway Young Farmers clubs' overwintering competition on Monday. 

From a total of 37 YF calves forward, Ali's Limousin bullocks named Black Jack was originally purchased from Gary Bell, Haa-Side at the October sale at Dumfries before going on to win the baby beef section at LiveScot. Black Jack later sold back to Gary, who was buying on behalf of a client for future showing, for £2000 or 362.3p per kg. 

In reserve was Youknowwhatimeanharry from Ali's girlfriend, Hannah Sloan. Another Limmy bullock bred at Haa-Side, he realised £1520 or 302p when knocked down to local show man, W Boyd.

Outwith the show, 277 store cattle held up recent values to top at £1325 for a heifer from Maryfield with bullocks to £1230 for British Blues from Backburn. 

The 121 heifers sold to average 210.17p with 128 bullocks at 208.4p. The 10 young bulls levelled at 207.8p and 18 dairy bullocks averaged 145.6p.
