A LIMOUSIN cross heifer from R Neil and Partners, Upper Nesbit, stood overall champion at Harrison and Hetherington’s Easter show and sale at St Boswells, on Monday, before securing the top price of £1633.50 and 275p per kg. 

Scaling 594kg, she was snapped up by the judge, J McKirdy of Linton Butchers, East Linton. The reserve champion came from WB Hamilton and Sons, Bee Edge. Their Limousin heifer weighing 588kg later sold for £1470 or 250p to Michael Malone, of Edinburgh Ltd.

Overall, 52 heifers levelled at 222p (+10p on the week) and were topped by the champion, while 33 bullocks averaged 220p (+3p on the week) and sold to 244p. 

The firm’s sale of 38 cast cows averaged 139.8p and reached 193p from Kedzlie and £1348.50 from The Craggs. 

Also sold were 1228 hoggs to average 170p (+4p), peaking at £96 for Suffolk crosses from Boghall, and 237p for Beltex hoggs from Faughhill. A smaller show of cast ewes saw Texels from Townhead top at £119 with Suffolk tups from Wester Middleton at £117.
