A GOOD spring day and a reduced number of buyers as a result, saw the best of the heifers sell to £2000 with cows peaking at £1850 at Wright Marshall's April Mid-Month Dairy Sale at Beeston, which attracted an entry of 269 head in all age groups.

The smaller than usual entry of 146 milkers saw an up and down trade, with the lead price paid for the calved heifer Leesemanor Glauco Rose from Wilf and Pam Lomas of Byley, Middlewich. This Glauco daughter backed by seven generations of VG or Ex-classifed dams is bred from the Blackrose family and sold giving 33kg per day to Philip Plant of Eccleshall who also went to £1800 for a heifer from Neil Jones of Fenns Bank, Whitchurch. This daughter of JZM Goldenball has 11 generations of VG/Ex cows behind her to include the Ethel family.

Ben and Margaret Elkin of Hilderstone, Stone, paid £1900 for a daughter of Velthuis Alpine from Howard Walmsley of Garstang; £1850 for a daughter of Sid from Ricard Atkin’s Ella family and the same price for a daughter of Sullly Hart Meridian from Ballakillingan Farms, Isle of Man.

Leading the cow trade at £1850 for a second calver from Chris Rutter of Delamere who sold a daughter of Million from the Miss America family giving 45kg to the Elkins.
