A CHAROLAIS bull proved the real star of the show at a multi-breed sale at Thainstone, attracting the lead price of 6500gns.
Selling at this price was the breed champion at the pre-sale show from Neil and Stuart Barclay’s Harestone herd from Insch. Harestone Leam, a 20-month-old entry, is a son of the 25,000gns Inverlochy Ferdie, and sold to MJ Forbes, Bogside, Drumblade, Huntly.
Reserve winner was Jock Wilson’s May 2015-born Kinclunde Leader, a son of the 20,000gns Beechgtree George, from Kinclune, Glenkindie. He made 6000gns selling to J and M McConachie, Midtown of Buchromb, Dufftown, Keith.
Second top price overall was 6200gns paid for the Limousin champion selected by judge Liam Muir, Orkney. This was Gallery Loki, from I and G Grant, Bank of Gallery, Montrose, purchased by DR and A Henderson, Mains of Wardhouse, Insch. Loki is by the AI sire, Huntershall Gladiator.
The reserve breed winner, Whinfellpark Limitededition from Messrs J McIrvine and McBeath, Huntly, made 5600gns to JW Moir, Auchorties, Keith.
Father and son team, Albert and George Howie, West Knock, Mintlaw, also came up with the goods and a 5200gns sale for their black December 2015-born Limousin, Knock Black Lotus. A son of Goldies Goldfinger, he sold to AMM Polson, Westerloch, Wick.
Aberdeen Angus peaked at 4400gns for the champion, Strathinver Evolution, a Strathinver Evolution-sired bull, purchased by the judge, Liam Muir. He was consigned by Wendy Willox, Broadmyre, Clatt, Huntly.
The reserve Simmental led the section at 4000gns for C and M Bruce, Tillyeve, Udny. Their December 2015-born Tillyeve Gordon, by Woodhall Ellison, was purchased by A and J Wilson, Upper Scotstown.
