A new record for a Blackface female has been achieved at United Auctions', Stirling sale of breeding sheep, when a ewe hogg from Ian Hunter, Dalchirla, sold for £12,000.

Surpassing the previous best of 8000gns paid for a Lurg ewe, the Dalchirla ewe hogg is by a £10,000 Nunnerie lamb bought at Dalmally in 2015. She sold to Billy McFarlane and sons Joe and Alfie, Drumgrange, Patna, Ayrshire.

In all, Mr Hunter sold 80 ewe hoggs to average £522.

The sale 5879 breeding sheep saw Scotch Mule ewe hoggs peak at £136 for a pen of 26 from Messrs Wight, Townfoot (Midlock), purchased by David Morrison, Dalwyne who also bought the lead priced Texel ewe hoggs at £520 per head from Malcolm Coubrough, Hartside.

Mule ewe hoggs with lambs sold to £200 from Easter Bucklyvie with Texel cross ewe hoggs with lambs from Airthrey Kerse selling to the same money.
