A large crowd of buyers ensured a cracking demand for cattle from Robert and Lorna Mcintyre's pedigree Dunallan Friesian herd, which was dispersed last week.

This on-farm sale on the island of Bute saw a top price of 2600gns paid for the third calver Dunallan Elaine 2, purchased by Tom and David Campbell, Low Ballees. She is by Blackisle Glencoe ET and bred from the Moet Lookout-sired Dunallan Lookout Elaine.

In-calf heifers peaked at 1350gns for Dunallan Emblem 20, a Collycroft Solo daughter, bred from a previous home-bred Emblem that is still milking in her seventh lactation. She was purchased by Messrs Earnshaw, West Darlochan.

Another Emblem led the bulling heifer trade at 980gns purchased by Ian MacLeod, East Uplaw. This was Dunallan Emblem 21, a June 2015-born daughter of Deangate Harris, out of Dunallan Emblem 7.

Machinery sold off the farm hit a top of £19,200 for a John Deere 6520 tractor.

Averages: 46 cows, £1051.83; 11 in-calf heifers, £1245.68; 12 bulling heifers, £862.92
