BREEDING cattle from Craig Malone and Teen Millar, Pitcairn, Cardenden, dominated Caledonian Marts’ show and sale last week, when they secured both the champion and reserve tickets, as well as the lead price.
Selling for the top price of £5100 was an outfit unplaced in the show, a Limousin cross heifer with a heifer calf by a Dumbreck bull which sold to Ballechin Farms, Ballinluig.
Their champion, a Limousin cross heifer with a bull calf sired by Lodge Hamlet, sold for £5000 to Haasside Farms, Lockerbie, while their reserve pen made £3800 to the judge, R Semple, Netherton, Dalrymple.
John McAlister of West Thomaston, Banknock, was also in the money when his third prize pen made £5000 to Brian Harper, Greenwells, Falkirk.
Two new centre record averages were made on the day when heifers with calves averaged £3117 and bulling heifers levelled at £1191.
