A SALERS bull from the Pye family led the way at a mixed breed sale of Salers, South Devons, Hereford and Whitebred Shorthorns, at Carlisle, when it sold for 3500gns. 

That was Rigel Klaxon, a polled March, 2015-born Rigel Munro son from Rednock House, Port of Menteith. Klaxon is out of the Amazonien-sired Rigel Overture and sold to J McTurk, Mackilston Dalry, Castle Douglas. 

Herefords peaked at 3000gns for G and MC Shepherd’s pre-sale champion, Moorside 1 No Limits, from Woodplumpton, Preston. Sitting in the top 10% for direct calving ease and top 5% for eye muscle, he is by Moorside 1 Kingston and out of Romany 1 Jane A51 E66, a former Female of the Year. No Limits was knocked down to S Henshaw, Haygarth, Dunnington. 

With five Hereford bulls selling to level at £2415, the second top price of 2900gns was paid for Moralee 1 Ned from T and D Harrison, Mickley, Stocksfield. Sired by Romany 1 Lawbreaker, he sold to JF and S Heath, Ravenfield, Hull.

Ten South Devon females cashed in to average £1317.75, peaking at 1500gns twice for two similarly aged heifers from AR Lee’s Lumbylaw herd at Eldingham, Alnwick. 

They were Lumbylaw Snowdrop 174, a Lumbylaw Magnus 41 daughter, and the Edmeston Zodiac 2-sired Lumbylaw Mary 67, which both sold to W Knowles, Overhall Farm, Premnay, Insch. 

The same home also bought Enterprise Jingle Belle, a December, 2015-born Malthouse Hurricane daughter from DL Irving, Greenwrae Croft, Newton, Gatelawbridge. 

Judith Brearley paid 1100gns for the dearest of two Whitebred Shorthorn bulls, Northwood Edmund, to take home to Highcliffe, Guisborough. Consigned by Mrs H Marginson, Northwood, Higham, Edmund is by Ben Ledi Joe.
