A GOOD show of grazing types met an exceptional demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 294 store cattle, where Simmental crosses from Proncy Farm, Dornoch, led the trade. 
They reached 339.4p per kg for a pen of bullocks weighing 218kg with heifers to 295.7p for a 208kg pair from the same home. 
A 585kg Simmental cross bullock from 87 Torrobole, Lairg, topped the gross trade at £1200 with a 515kg Limousin cross heifer from Corrachie, Avoch, making £1080.
The 154 bullocks levelled at 251.4p with 132 heifers at 231.5p.
Prime and feeding cows (50) averaged 146.2p having peaked at 185.7p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Balintraid, Delny, and £1230 for a Limousin cross from 87 Torrobole.

STORE cattle sold to extreme rates when 370 head averaged £1083.72 at Harrison and Hetherington's sale. 
A top of £1350 was paid for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Roe, Croft Farm, with bullocks at £1345 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Messrs Bowman, Brampton Fell. 
Weaned calves peaked at £1145 for a Limousin cross bull from Tim McGarva, Barwhanny. Heifers reached £1125 for an Angus from Messrs Thompson, Edenbanks, with bullocks to £1095 for a British Blue from Messrs Dent, South Thornberry. 
At the firm’s sale of 1014 breeding sheep on Monday, a pen of Texel hoggs with Beltex lambs from Messrs Inman, Kilnknowe, Lockerbie, led at £142 per head, with more of the same from Messrs Pattinson, Kinkry Hill, at £126.

A British Blue cross bullock weighing 595kg topped the gross trade at £1260, with Holstein and Ayrshire cross bullocks from the same home at 164.1p and £840. 
Charolais crosses topped the heifer section at 265.2p for a 279kg entry from Kildalloig and £1240 for another weighing 564kg from Muirmealing. 
Overall, 443 bullocks averaged 232.79p with 14 dairy bullocks at 156.54p and 347 heifers at 223.3p. 
Cast cows hit 186.9p for a Limousin cross from Classlochie and £1430 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Woodhead of Mailer. 
The 148 cast beef cows averaged 142.54p with 17 dairy cows at 1108.24p, having peaked at 129.2p from Broughmore and £1070 from Claylands.

Store cattle (140) achieved extreme rates, peaking at £1350 for Luing bullocks from Upper Chatto with heifers to £1040 for Angus from Morebattle Tofts. 
Overall, 82 bullocks levelled at £962.20 with 58 heifers at £863.10.
A good show of ewes with lambs reached £172 on several occasions – for Charollais ewes with twins from Hallrule Mill; Cheviot Mule ewes with twins from Kirk o’Er; and for Cheviot cross ewes with twins from Whiteslade.

A GOOD show of breeding cattle was easily cashed with cow and calf units in particular demand at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 183 last week. 
They peaked at £2700 four times for Salers with calves from Firth Farm, Lilliesleaf, while heifers with calves hit £2650 for a Simmental cross from Roundhome, Corse. 
The sale of store cattle saw increased averages on the week as 209 bullocks levlled at 239.4p per kg (+7p) with 251 heifers at 229.7p (+4.7p), 19 dairy bullocks at 181.5p, and 22 young bulls at 211.6p. 
Leading at 323.1p was a 260kg pen of Limousin bullocks from Guise, Tough, with a 606kg Charolais bullock from 3 Links, Westray, topping the gross trade at £1440. 
Heifers reached 277.1p for a 350kg pair of Charolais from Thurso East, Thurso, and £1360 for a 594kg Limousin from Guise as well as a 638kg Limousin from Warthill, Holm. 
Ewes with lambs were keenly bid for when 1057 peaked at £92 per life for Texel gimmers with singles from Vale View, Tough. 
Store hoggs (83) reached £89.50 for Blackfaces from Home Farm Cairness, Fraserburgh, and the 864 feeding sheep sold to £111 for pure Texel ewes from Halley, Deerness.

An Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer weighing 480kg from Strathlinnie, Fort William, topped the gross trade at £1015 . Top per kg was 261.5p paid for a 260kg Limousin cross from Antuim, Isle of Mull. Heifers averaged 231.5p for 47.
Levelling at 123.1p, 19 OTM cows reached 156p for a Shorthorn cross from Kengharair, Mull, and £1070 for a Charolais cross from Strathlinnie. 
An Aberdeen-Angus cross with heifer calf from 72 Camaghael led the breeding females at £1290. 
Breeding sheep (146) reached £132 three times – for Suffolk cross ewes with triplets as well as Cheviot ewes with twins, all from Meall Mo Chridhe, Kilchoan, and again for a Cheviot ewe with twins from Drumbuie, Drumnadrochit. 
The 297 store hoggs peaked at £87 for Texel crosses from Meall Mo Chridhe, the 130 feeding ewes sold to £78 for a Texel from Balmaglaster, Spean Bridge, and the 30 feeding sheep hit £65 for a cross wedder from Alcan Highland Estate.

AT Dumfries, C and D Auction Marts sold 163 store cattle, where 90 bullocks levelled at 228.6p per kg with 60 heifers at 213.9p and 13 Holstein bullocks at 160.8p. 
The sale reached 290.7p for Simmental bullocks from Buittle Mains with Simmental heifers from the same home making 286p.

BRITISH Blues from DA Wilson, Belzies, led Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of store cattle, on Tuesday, when a heifer realised £1115 and a bullock made £1050. 
Limousins bullocks from W Halliday and Son, Capelfoot, led the pence per kg trade at 269.8p.

MORE than 500 sheep were forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s final breeding sheep sale of the season which met as sharp a trade as seen all season. 
Leading at £74 per head were pure Dorset ewes and lambs from first time sellers, Messrs Bolger, Little Annaside, Bootle. 
The sale included a large entry of Herdwicks which reached £42 per life three times from Baskell, Ghyll and Blackhall farms.
