SEVERAL of the top lots sold to regular buyer Mark Goodall at the opening June dairy sale at Skipton where freshly calved heifers sold to average £1611.67.
Selling to Mr Goodall, of Tong, Bradford, for the top price of £2020 was a home-bred Holstein heifer from Mark Smith, Winterburn, as well as the reserve champion from Mark Stapleton and mother, Shiela.
Their Cattrona Baart-sired heifer, which was paraded 17 days fresh and giving 27 litres, was acquired from her breeder, DE Graveston, Bolton-by-Bowland, and sold to Mr Goodall for £1950.
Selling for the second top price of £2000 to Brian Blezard, Ribchester, was the third prize heifer in milk from Brian and Judith Moorhouse’s Aireburn herd from Bell Busk. Aireburn Endo Knierke was giving 35 litres having calved 16 days prior to the sale.
The champion, a home-bred heifer from Keith and David Downs, Milnerfield, Bingley, sold to the judge, Andrew Townsend, who farms with his father Alf in Southfield, Burnley, for £1900. She was three weeks calved and giving 30 litres.
