PRIME lambs from R Anderson and Son, Oldwall Farm, Galston, secured the overall championship at Craig Wilson's annual show and sale of Texel prime lambs at Ayr, on Monday, and sold for the top price £129 or 300p per kg.
Scaling 43kg, the champion pen judged by Sandy Clark, Woodside Cottage, Auchenlongford, Sorn, was knocked down to James Stark, Bluebell, Milton of Campsie.
In reserve was a pen weighing 42kg from K Wilson, Yonderfield, West Kilbride, which later sold for £118 or 280.9p to A Picken and Sons, Quality Butchers, Ayr.
The sale of 66 lambs levelled at 235.6p, up 29.7p on the year.
Also sold on the day were 958 prime lambs which averaged 222.8p (-24.3p on the week and +31.1p on the year). They reached 252.4p for a pen of 42kg Beltex from Dykes Farm, Auchenleck, and £123 for Suffolks from Harpercroft.
Averaging 164.1p (-14.7p), the 69 prime hoggs saw a pen of Texels from H Hodge, Garfield, Mauchline, which crossed the weigh bridge at 50kg, hit a top of 186.1p, while a similar pen from the same home sold for £93.
Among the 613 cast ewes and tups, heavy ewes levelled at £81.17 and sold to a top price of £138.50 for a pen of Texels from I Gatherer, Hill of Ochiltree.
Light ewes reached £73.50 for Blackfaces from T and N Barr, Sheildhill, Newton Mearns, to level at £58.39.
Texel tups from J and J Thomson, Mossend, Kirkmichael, topped at £165.50.
