PRIME lambs sold to a better trade at Skipton’s show and sale, last week, when they averaged 214p per kg and reached a top price per head of £118.
Topping the sale was a pen of Texels from JA Stoney and Son, Pateley Bridge, which sold to Countrystyle Met of Lancaster, while a pen of Beltex from Henry Atkinson, Felliscliffe, made 263.4p.
The champion pen from Mick Hewitt, Giggleswick, came in the shape of five Beltex crosses weighing 39kg which sold to £101 or 259p per kg. They sold to Hartshead Meat Co, Mossley, who also bought the reserve champion and second prize continentals from TA Robinson for £98 apiece.
CCM Auctions’ show and sale of prime cattle peaked at £1505 and 259.5p for a 580kg British Blue cross heifer from Jim Baines, Trawden. She sold to D and A Gregory and Son, Bacup.
A pure-bred Limousin heifer weighing 535kg from the Critchley family, Hutton, which stood reserve champion, later sold for £1495 or 279.5p to Jeff Burrow, while the champion, a home-bred 540kg British Blue cross heifer from JM Townsend, Laneshawbridge, made 264.5p or £1428  to judge, Martin Brown, Leyburn.
