A ram lamb from Jimmy Douglas' Cairness flock from Fraserburgh, attracted the top price of 4000gns at the Carlisle and Northern Counties Suffolk show and sale, at Carlisle.

The lamb, a January-born ET son of Cavanagrove Catalyst, bred from a ewe by Muiresk King of Diamonds, is an ET son of the flock's 12,000gns lamb sold at Stirling and was knocked down to David Inman, Salters Hill, Satchville, Melton Mowbray.

Hazel Martindale, Land farm, Ecclefechan, Lockerbie, sold the second top priced lot at 1800gns to David Gilmour, Broomknowes, Maybole. This was a son of Drimmie Broadsword, out of a ewe by Landale Black Magic.

The champion, a son of the 4000gns Roseden Endeavour, from G and J Soulsby, Williamsgill, Temple Sowerby, Penrith, made 1500gns. He is out of a ewe by Strathisla HRH and was purchased by M Tett, Raikes Farm, Lea Town, Preston.

Minutes earlier, Roy and Gregor Hiddleston, received 1400gns for their best from the Irongray flock from Dumfries. Stephen Cobbald, Acton Hall, Acton, Suffolk, forked out the cash for this Irongray Black Magic son, bred from a ewe by Rhaeadr Ring A Ding.

Top price amongst the females was 1300gns paid by AH Fisher, Merrick Farm, Portpatrick, Stranraer, for David Gilmour's third prize gimmer from Broomknowes. She is by Broomknowes Royal Boy and out of a ewe by Rhaeadr Rock.

Averages: 34 shearling gimmers, £516.97 (-£6.29 for 11 more sold); 11 ewe lambs, £361.77 (-£108.83 for the same number); four shearling rams, £895.16 (+£319.14 for three fewer); 62 ram lambs, £647.19 (+£114.59 for 14 fewer).
