Prices peaked at £2350 to average £1724 at the August Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale at Carlisle, which attracted all breeds, crosses and ages.

For the second consecutive month, JW Graves and Son from Home Farm, Tallentire topped the trade, this time selling Starmaker Ruth, a daughter of Souththreave Starmaker giving 33kg, to JI Graham, Calvertsholm, Rigg, Gretna.

Home Farm also sold the lead priced cross-bred, a Brown Swiss heifer giving 27kg which again sold to JI Graham. The Graves sold seven heifers to average £1818.

Another heading on the same lorry load to Calvertsholm, with Mr Graham was the lead priced cow at £2200. This was Brian and Valerie Davidson's Holstein Errolston Dege Eva, from Errolston, Gretna. She sold giving 48kg and is bred from a 14,000kg dam.

The firm of K and C Wilson from Wood Farm, sold a number of quality heifers to a top of £1980 for a daughter of Donnadale Lumi giving 31kg bred from a Bolton dam. The buyers were T and MD Beaty, Langhorn, Birrigg, Egremont.

Newhouse Farms, Dumfries sold two big heifers giving 35kg to top at £1980, to J and M Prentice, Blackwood, New Cumnock.

Top price amongst the British Friesians was £1900 for a second calver consigned by WP Williamson, Barrowmoor Farm, Appleby, purchased by MI and DR Little, North Greenhill, Roweltown, Carlisle.
