AVERAGES increased across the board for more sold at Harrison and Hetherington’s North Country Cheviot sale of ‘park’ rams and females at Lockerbie yesterday, where trade reached a top of £5000.
With 175 shearlings averaging £985.31, it was Scott Davies’ pen leader from his Synton flock at Ashkirk, Selkirk, that sold the top two priced lots. Sale leader at £5000 was a son of Hownam Grange Send Off which sold to Philiphaugh Estate, Selkirk, while next best at £4500 went to Roderick Runciman, Allanshaws, Galashiels.
Two then came under the hammer at £4000 to include the champion ram from the Allen family, Humbleheugh, Alnwick. Matching that price was one from Peter Hedley’s Overacres flock at Swinside, Townfoot, Oxnam.
Just behind at £3500 was the best from Roderick Runciman’s Allanshaws flock at Galashiels, with a further two at £3000 from the Synton flock and Innes Graham, Carruthers, Lockerbie.
With all averages up amongst the ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs, the female trade peaked at £460 apiece for a pen of gimmers from David Matthewson’s Soutra flock at Blackshiels, Pathhead.
