A HEIFER from Loanhead, Logie Coldstone, secured the champion ticket before going on to sell for the top price at a show and sale of spring-born calves at United Auctions’ Huntly centre.
The sale, which included a good show of well-bred suckled calves that recorded improved averages on the year, was judged by Angus Greenlaw, of Sheep Park, whose Limousin cross champion tipped the scales at 325kg and was knocked down to W Cameron, Burnside of Edingight, for £2000 or 615.4p per kg.
Claiming the reserve ticket was a 375kg Limousin cross heifer from Barnyards of Badenyouchers, which later sold to Mr Greenlaw for £1500.
With the champion leading the trade, the 378 heifers levelled at 236.3p (+5.2p on the year) while 541 bullocks averaged 249.5p (+13.8p), having peaked at 337p for a 270kg Limousin cross from Clinterty, New Aberdour, and £1255 for a 525kg Charolais cross from Coleburn, Elgin.
