UNITED Auctions' annual show and sale of suckled calves at Stirling, on Monday, saw 526 bullocks average 263.41p per kg and 415 heifers level at 249.51p.

Top price per head at £1090 was paid for a 445kg Charolais cross from Shanry Farms, while leading the pence per kilo section at 347.50p was a Salers cross heifer weighing 236kg from Rannagulzion.

Charolais calves from The Ross topped the bullock section when one weighing 297kg made 319.70p and the other at 380kg sold for £1070.

Champion in the pre-sale show, judged by D Rennie, Clatto, Cupar, was a 366kg bullock from Kennedy, Lurgan, which sold for £1000, while the reserve, a heifer weighing 344kg from Cloquhat Farms, made £1080.

On the same day, the firm sold 4252 store lambs and feeding sheep where trade reached £74 for Beltex from Langfauld.
