A maiden heifer from EH Pennie and Son's Sarkley herd proved the star attraction at North West Midlands and North Wales Club's pedigree Limousin show and sale, selling for the top price of 5000gns.
The heifer, Sarkley Linzee, a two-year-old by Dinmore Goldeneye, from the Powys-based herd was knocked down to Sean Cooney, Drumasladdy, Milltown, Co Caven, Eire. Linzee is bred from Sarkley Duralee, a daughter of the 30,000gns Haltcliffe Banker.
The family's second top priced heifer, Sarkley Manella, also sold across the Irish Sea, to Drumagarner Road, Kilrea, Co Derry, having been purchased by N Quinn. Manella is by Lodge Hamlet and out of Glangwden Ianella, a bought-in Powerhouse Emblem-sired cow.
The Pennies also sold the second top priced bull at 4500gns to M and A Powell, Drefor Farm, Kerry, Newtown, Powys. This was the first prize senior bull, Sarkley Marlow, another by Hamlet, this time bred from the Wilodge Fastrac-sired Sarkley Issy Jen.
Topping the bull trade at 4900gns was the reserve male champion, Esmor Evans' Esmors Black Montgomery, a May 2016-born black bull by Knock Glencoe, out of the French cow, Gentille. He sold to J and M Cherry, The Graig, Dolfor, Newtown, Powys.
