A LIMOUSIN cross heifer from Allan Barnett, Brinns, Shap, claimed the championship honours at Penrith and District Farmers' Mart's annual Christmas primestock show and sale on Monday. 
Judge, Geoff Nutter, Preston, placed Mr Barnett's heifer champion before it sold for the top price of 300p per kg or £1716 to Peter Smith, butcher of Cocklakes Farm Shop, Penruddock. 
The reserve honours went to a Limousin cross bullock from Mary Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, which later sold for 266p or £1568.44 to Les Fell on behalf of Pearson Wholesale Butchers. 
Outwith the show, prime bulls met a flying trade, averaging 206.5p and reaching 229.5p for a 613kg Limousin from Messrs Raine, Fog Close, and £1650.95 for a Charolais weighing 742kg from the same home.
