BRITISH Blue cross cattle from Steven Horsfield, Rough Farm, Mytholmroyd, produced the overall championship and topped the trade at Skipton Auction Mart’s Christmas show and sale of store cattle.
Taking the red, white and blue sash was the first prize bullock by the stock bull, Hercules, which sired last year’s winner, out of a Blonde cross cow. He sold for £1140 to Rodney Bros, Masham.
It was Mr Horsfield’s second prize heifer, however, which sold for the top price of £1420 to the Maughan family, Penrith.
Reserve was mother and son, Janet and James Huck’s home-bred Limousin cross from Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick. By Ballinloan Jaegerbomb, out of a Limousin cross British Blue cow, she made £1020 to the judge, James Drake, Oakworth.
Among the young bulls, champion was a home-bred British Blue cross from David, Carol and Philip Gardener, Philpin Farm, which was knocked down for £1200 to John and Robert Matten, Thirsk.
