AN intermediate bull from the Fraser family has claimed the first of the breed championships here at Stirling Bull Sales.

The Aberdeen-Angus breed was the first to take to the judging ring this morning and judge Alan Morrison, of the Drumeer herd near Maguiresbridge, County Fermanagh, selected Idvies Ferrari as his supreme winner. Born in May, 2016, and sired by the 10,000gns Gretnahouse Prince Cool bought at the same sale three years ago, Ferrari is out of a daughter of the 24,000gns Lockerley Legolas shared with Rawburn in the shape of Idvies Flora K489, a female which has bred sons to £22,000 as well as others retained in the herd at Newton of Idvies, Forfar.

"He's got great presence with great style and correctness - just what you look for in a pedigree bull," said Mr Morrison of his champion. "He carried himself well and has a good topline as well as depth of hindquarter."

Claiming the reserve overall title was the leader of the junior section, Duncanziemere Mr Bennett from the Clark family, Avisyard, Cumnock. He is by the Royal Highland Show inter-breed champion, Rawburn Jester Eric, whose five sons peaked at 15,000gns and averaged more than £9500 here last year. Mr Bennett waws born in June, 2016, out of the Auldhouseburn Carlos daughter, Duncanziemere Miss Belinda L409.

Taking the reserve intermediate champion was Robert Galloway's Cardona Edwin, a Nightingale Dunbar son bred from Cardona Edwina F435, by Cudlobe Yellowstone. Among the juniors, the reserve honours went to Neil Wattie's Tonley Emmerson, a Tonley Anelka son out of Tonley Equidora, by Tonley Esquire.

Taking the top title among the seniors was AJR Farms' Logie Explosive, a Rawburn Enoch son bred from Logie Banner, a Logie Elegant daughter. Reserve here was the Gilmour family's Belhaven Dundee, sired by Retties JFK and out of the Rawburn Evolution-bred Belhaven Delilah.
