HEIFERS ruled supreme at Caledonian Marts' show and sale of store cattle at Stirling, on Monday, where there was a reduced number of 218 forward due to the weather conditions.
Claiming the championship was a Charolais heifer weighing 420kg from J and D Mitchell, Offers, which went on to sell to the judge, J Watson, Pityot, for £1110. In reserve was a 495kg Limousin heifer from R McNee, Woodend, which realsied £1140.
Overall, the sale reached 300p per kg for a bullock from G Stewart, Wester Whin, with bullocks also leading the gross trade at £1220 from AL and J Blair, East Kerse. Bullocks levelled at 233p.
Heifers averaged 222p, having peaked at 265p from Ardtalla Estates, Isle of Islay, as well as £1140 for the reserve champion and again from J and J Graham, Mains of Burnbank.
Also on offer were 212 store hoggs and grit ewes, where hoggs reached £73 from Straid Farms and grit ewes hit £60 for Blackfaces from Neriby, Isle of Islay.
