WITH weather conditions less than ideal at Harrison and Hetherington's Borderway mart last week, many potential buyers could not travel to the dispersal of the McClymont family's Inshanks Ayrshire herd from near Stranrear.
Despite these challenging conditions, there was a reasonable trade for these hardy robust cattle as they peaked at 1500gns for a young dry cow about to calve her second. Selling to Keith Stoddart, The Lilacs, Carlisle, she is from the Donna family and displayed great legs and udder.
Buying 21 dry cows was Northern Ireland's Mr Hamilton, from Dungannon, who paid a top of 1350gns for a young cow due with her third from the Celandine family.
Averages: 147 cows and heifers in milk, £792.85; 26 in-calf heifers, £914.30; 33 bulling heifers, £487.13.
