TRADE was described as being as dreich as the wintery weather at Moffat, on Saturday, with the best field dogs in short supply at C and D Auctions' spring sale of working collies.
Selling for the top price of 4200gns was George Simpson's Gel from Huntly, a three-year-old black and white dog. Selling to T Renwick, from Cloverfields, having handled the Cheviot hoggs well during his display, Gel's breeding includes DW Davies' Prince on to HL Pritchard's Bet.
Next at 3600gns was Meg, a 21-month-old tri-colour bitch from Patrick McKeever, Martinstown. She is by B McAllister's Spot, out of Patrick's own Nan, and heads to Halterburn, Roxburgh, with C Purvis.
The entry of field dogs cashed in to average £1720, with other leading disclosed prices including Killin-based Steven Cook's Gael which sold to Neil and Poppy Hindmarsh, Rowhope, Northumberland, for 2050gns, and at 2000gns, Messrs Urwin, Lynnshields, Northumberland, bought A Montgomery's Rock from Glenwhemy.
