A DEXTER heifer topped Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of rare and traditional breeds as well as poultry, eggs and equipment at Dingwall on Saturday.

The heifer from Midburn, Lochussie, topped the six cattle on offer when it sold for £350, while the sole pony on forward, a Shetland from Hillcrest, Duncanston, realised £400.

Of the 159-strong sheep entry, a Dorset gimmer with lamb at foot from Smallburn Farms, Duffus, topped at £230 while the 11 goats sold to £40 for a pygmy male from Blackhillock, Knockando.

A trio of copper blue Maran hens from Rowan Villa, Mybster, headed up the 343 lots of poultry.
